Life as a guitar player gets more beautiful by the day. Yes, folks, there is big news in Guitar Land with companies offering astonishing new, improved gear.
Let’s see what’s up in the gear world today. Who knows, you might find your next favorite music-maker here.
The All-New Fender Ultra II Series
“Innovation Never Rests” That’s the slogan for the new, improved Ultra Series II by Fender. This is the series that’s intended for pro touring and studio musicians around the world. They offer the tone and look of timeless Fender instruments but hide more than one trick under the hood.
The new series includes a revamped, compound-radius Telecaster, Stratocaster, P-Bass, Jazz Bass, and Meteora guitars and basses. They come in new colors and have unique appointments that open new sonic highways.
The Ultra Series is proof that overhauling a classic can take your playing to new territories and make it withstand the hardships of the road delivering top-notch performances every night.

Neural Has Gone Stomp Box Size
Neural DSP has been making traditionalists, purists, and nerds go crazy for the past five years. Yes, since they developed and released the “capture” feature, guitar and bass players could take an arsenal of their favorite amps to any gig.
Well, now you can do the same but with a gadget that weighs less than a kilo and can fit in your backpack easily. The Nano Cortex is a fully functional, miniature-sized version of the Quad Cortex that works replacing amps live and can also double as a computer interface to record your favorite tones.
Can AI Play Like Uncle Eddie?
Alex Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen’s brother and Van Halen’s drummer told The Rolling Stone Magazine he reached out to OpenAI. This is part of his plan to have Eddie’s playing analyzed and possibly have brand-new solos and riffs played by the AI version of Eddie.
That way, the drummer is thinking about releasing new, posthumous material by the king of shred, Mr. Eddie Van Halen. What do you think? Hit or miss?
John Mayer’s New Strings, The Perfect Set?
Have you ever stringed your Stratocaster with 11s? You know the feeling; it gets bigger in tone, but your fingers are just sore after the third song bending that second string. Well, John Mayer, one of music’s most audacious string benders (after Mr. Gilmour, of course) just came up with a solution for you.
John teamed up with Ernie Ball to create the Silver Slinkys (yes, just like the guitar, clever, uh?). These strings are not only the perfect hybrid between 10s and 11s but also feature an OCB level of fine-tuning to match the exact requirements of the guitar legend.
In his own words, “The gauges are perfectly situated between .010 and .011 sets, and feature special core-to-wrap ratios,” Mayer, who has been playing these for a couple of years already, also stated that “The tension is exactly where I’ve always wanted it — big enough to get great tone, but nimble enough to finesse those vocal bends we as guitar players are always going for.”
Gauges are:
• .0105
• .0135
• .0175p
• .027w
• .037
• .047
Oh, and that’s not all, they also come in a tin box that’s perfect for storing picks, more strings, and other accessories.
Fractal Audio Is Going into Multi-Effects Processor Territory with the VP4
Fractal Audio was the first company to revolutionize the way touring guitarists approach guitar tone. The AXE FX became the norm in big arena and stadium shows before the Quad Cortex or the Kemper joined the scene.
With the same bold, innovative spirit, Fractal Audio is going against the current. Indeed, while all companies are releasing smaller versions of their classic gear you can Velcro to your pedalboard and do a complete show, Fractal has just released a mammoth unit that’s virtually an endless pedalboard with no amp simulation.
Yes, the VP4 offers over 400 pedal types that you can combine in virtually any way you want. Plus, with the 104 user preset slots you can even put together a pedalboard for each song.
Finally, the unit comes with a plethora of inputs and outputs and makes a terrific one-stop solution for all things related to effects pedals live and in the studio.
Gretsch and Martin Gore, The Underrated Strummer’s Signature Ax
100 million albums sold, and 35 million souls rocked later, Depeche Mode is still one of the most relevant and popular active rock bands in the world. Much of that success was fueled by an uncanny guitar and keyboard player and composer who’s been massively underrated in the Guitar World.
Well, it was about time Martin Gore had his signature guitar and, in a joint effort with Gretsch, he just released the Gretsch G6618. This is a center-block guitar with a 16” wide, 2.375” deep maple body, and a U-shaped maple neck with an ebony fingerboard.
The neck comes with a 12” radius so you can play like Martin Gore or Brian Setzer with the same instrument. Speaking of which, the TV Jones TV-HT single-coil pickups should provide enough clean bite to play “Personal Jesus” all day.
Finally, the color of choice for Martin was Two-Tone Smoke Green and it looks like the kind of instrument he would walk up on stage with.
