The ultimate Christmas present for any guitarist has to be a new guitar. But with so many options available, deciding on what to buy can be a tough decision. So, I’ve gathered the best 10 Christmas gift guitars at a range of prices to hopefully make the decision a little easier.
Let’s start with the…
10. EastCoast ST1 Electric Guitar in Lake Placid Blue
Christmas Wishlists don’t have to just feature dream guitars, if you’re a complete beginner, your first guitar is always incredibly special, so make sure you buy a good one that will make you want to play it and improve your skills. My recommendation would be an EastCoast ST1.
This is one of the best first guitars for a beginner that money can buy. It has the looks and features of one of the all-time-classics, the Fender Stratocaster, but will cost you a lot less than buying the real thing. It sounds great and is easy to play, which is so important to novice players.
A superb choice for those starting their guitar journey this Christmas on limited budgets.
9. Squier Affinity Telecaster in 3-Color Sunburst
From one classic Fender guitar shape to another, a Telecaster in its most iconic color, sunburst. Being a Squier, a division of the might Fender corporation, this is built to a higher quality than the EastCoast. However, it’s still very affordable when compared to the price of a Fender Tele, making it a great first guitar option for beginners.
As you would expect, it features the legendary Tele design and pickup configuration, giving you exactly the same feel, looks, and specs that you would get from a Fender.
So, if you’re looking for an excellent quality Telecaster this Christmas that won’t break the bank, you won’t get better than this.
8. EastCoast L1 Electric Guitar in Blue Burst
We now go back to EastCoast for this absolutely stunning-looking L1.
If you’re starting out and are a fan of Les Paul-shaped guitars, this has to be the best looking affordable version currently available. The color is jaw-droppingly beautiful making this guitar so good to look at that you will want to play it each and every day.
A pair of humbuckers, two tone and two volume controls, and a 3-way selector switch will give you the same range of tones as you’d find on a Gibson. But it won’t hit your bank balance anywhere near as much as buying a real Les Paul would.
7. Squier Mini Strat Electric Guitar in Shell Pink
Due to the influence of guitarists such as Taylor Swift, more girls are learning to play the guitar than ever before. But, what if you need a Christmas present for someone who wants to become the next Taylor? Well, it doesn’t get better than this Squier Strat Mini, it’s easily the coolest guitar for girls this Christmas.
This is simply the ultimate in cute, and guaranteed to put a smile on any girls face when they unwrap it on Christmas morning.
It’s got everything you’d find on a regular Strat - three pickups, a 5-way selector switch, and tone and volume knobs. But it doesn’t have a whammy bar, which won’t be a problem for most beginners.
6. Pignose PGG-200 Electric Guitar with Built-in Amplifier
Are you frustrated that work constantly takes you away from home and your beloved guitar? It’s tough not being able to put in the practice hours and constantly improve. But there is a innovative solution… let me I introduce you to the Pignose PGG-200.
This travel guitar was created by Pignose, best known for designing one of the most legendary busking amps in history. With the PGG-200, the amp is physically built in to the guitar, making it easy to travel with and play anywhere. It won’t produce the greatest electric guitar sounds you’ve ever heard, but it’s more than adequate for practicing.
It fits into larger suitcases, and even travel bags, making it a superb Christmas present for any musician who loves to be near their instrument, whether at home, or away.
Moving away from affordable Christmas guitar gifts, let’s take a look at some more expensive dream guitars that would put a huge grin on any guitarist’s face who was lucky enough to receive them this festive season.
5. Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335
Dave Grohl’s signature DG-335 is a cross between an ES-335 and a Trini Lopez, with a Firebird-style headstock and diamond-shaped soundholes.
It has a layered maple top and body, and the one-piece mahogany neck is 'Elliptical' C profile. The fingerboard is Indian laurel featuring mother-of-pearl Split Diamond inlays.
This gorgeous Pelham Blue guitar features a USA Burstbucker 2 pickup in the neck position and a Burstbucker 3 at the bridge to give you all the rock tones you would expect from a Dave Grohl signature.
4. EVH Gear Circles
EVH has decided to reissue a bonafide cult classic, Eddie Van Halen’s radically modified early 80s Circles guitar. This puts it right at the top of any EVH fan’s Christmas Wishlist.
It’s a hot-rodded, strat-style guitar with an unusal “crop circle” design.
It features a basswood body, and a maple bolt-on neck with maple fingerboard. There is also an EVH-branded Floyd Rose vibrato featurng a D-Tuna for instant dropped D tuning, and an EVH Wolfgang humbucker at the bridge to recreate Eddie’s souring tone.
3. Gretsch G6120T-BSSMK Brian Setzer Signature 59 Bigsby
This stunning orange beast of a guitar has been styled on Brian Setzer’s 1959 hollowbody Gretsch Nashville. It’s a colossal guitar that will top the wishlists of Stray Cats fans, as well as those who love rock’n’roll and archtops.
It delivers the classic Gretsch sound with the help of TV Jones Ray Butts pickups, a pinned Adjusto-Matic bridge along with a Bigsby vibrato. These, along with the rolled fingerboard provides the wonderful aged playing feel and tone of a vintage Gretsch.
Style wise, the gorgeous smoke orange finish and the headstock design is a fitting homage to the original '59 design.
2. Gibson EDS-1275 Doubleneck - Jimmy Page Signature
Next, we have the most expensive guitar on this list, the Gibson Jimmy Page signature EDS-1275 Doubleneck. And by expensive, I really mean it, this bad boy will set you back just short of $50,000.
Wow, so what do you get for all that money? Well, this is an accurate replica of the guitar that Jimmy used to play Stairway To Heaven, The Rain Song, Celebration Day, and The Song Remains The Same live with the mighty Led Zeppelin.
It was created by scanning the profile of Page's original EDS-1275 with 3D technology to get everything absolutely right down to the distressing which was laboriously done by hand. And each one of these limited run of 50 'Collector’s Edition' guitars has been signed and played by meastro himself.
You’ll also get a luxurious selection of case candy including a Certificate of Authenticity book, a Vintage Replica Strap and a Premium Cherry/Black Leather Strap, an Embroidered Dragon Guitar Shroud, a wooden Pick Display featuring the actual Herco Flex pick that Jimmy used to play that specific guitar, and possibly most importantly, a Gibson Doubleneck Stand.
If you’re the world’s biggest Jimmy Page fan and you have the money to spare, this just has to be at the top of your Christmas Guitar Wishlist.
1. Fender Triplecaster - Jack White Signature
I’ve saved the best till last, and if you havn’t seen this recently released signature Jack White telecaster yet, you are in for a treat, it’s stunning, as shown below.
This is by far the best looking and most interesting guitar released for a very long time. It’s the perfect blend of classic Fender elements with modern twists to create a guitar that is truely unique.
It’s called the Triplecaster after Jack’s love of all things in threes. Therefore it has three pickups, a 3-way selector switch, three control knobs, three dots on the 12th fret inlay, and a three saddle compensated bridge.
It features a chambered ash body with a soft "V" profile 22-fret maple neck. The slightly odd but ever-so-cool Tim Shaw designed pickup configuration consists of a wide range humbucker in the neck, a cutomized P-90 (JW-90) in the middle position and a JW custom humbucker at the bridge. As mentioned, it only has a three-way selector switch, with each position routed to only one pickup. This gives you three completely different tones from one guitar.
Other interesting features include an arcade-style "Stutter" switch for incredibly quick kill switch stutters and a 3-way toggle switch disguised as a knob. This acts as an off switch, normal mode, or “Straight to Jack” sending the signal from whicheve pickup is selected straight to the output bypassing the volume and tone circuitry.
You’ll also get a Hipshot Xtender for instant dropped D tuning, a white banjo-style armrest, and a Bigsby B-5 Vibrato which has been mainly powder coated in white - super cool!
As I said, it really is a unique instrument, making it the most sought after guitar this Chrstmas. However, there are two slight problems, it’s expensive and it’s a limited edition, so don’t hang about. These will go quickly but are a surefire investment if you take care of it. Something this beautiful can only go up in value over time.
Wrapping it Up
There you have it, the Top 10 Guitars that should be on the wishlist of any guitarist this Christmas. My personal favorite is the Fender Triplecaster. I think it’s absolutely stunning and the perfect Christmas Gift to myself.
Whichever guitar you choose, you won’t be disappointed. They are all stunning in their own unique way.
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy, and successful New Year!
